Education

Education is a fundamental pillar of our mission in the Philippines. Launched in 2017, the IWCT Education Programme was created with a clear, ambitious goal: to transform the culture surrounding animal welfare and redefine how dogs are treated across the country.

In Southeast Asia, the relationship between humans and animals has historically differed from that of Western countries. In many Philippine communities, particularly within remote provinces, dogs are often seen with a sense of caution. This is largely driven by a deep-seated fear of Rabies—a life-threatening reality that remains a significant concern in these regions.

Consequently, stray dogs roaming the streets are a common sight, and the bond between people and animals is often fractured by misunderstanding.

That’s why the work we do to educate the community is crucial.

Looking to the future

Since the programme’s inception, we have witnessed a rewarding shift in attitudes. Through community outreach and school visits, we are replacing fear with compassion and ignorance with expertise. However, our work is far from finished.

To create a future where every dog is valued and protected, we must reach more schools, engage more local leaders, and continue our vital conversations with the public. With your support, we can turn the tide for animals in the Philippines.

Education in depth

Our Specialist Education Team

Our Specialist Education Team

Our team of Vets and Veterinary Assistants travels to schools and remote provincial communities to educate and inspire change. These seminars dispel long-held fears and highlight the immense joy dogs bring to our lives. From the essentials of a balanced diet and regular exercise to the life-saving importance of vaccinations and neutering. These sessions provide an open forum for community members to ask our experts anything about animal care.

Challenging Harmful Myths

Challenging Harmful Myths

We are committed to abolishing dangerous myths that still persist in the Philippines. Many believe that removing a puppy’s teeth can prevent Rabies, or attempt "home castrations" using elastic bands—practices that cause immense suffering and infection. We work tirelessly to replace these misconceptions with humane, scientifically-backed veterinary care. By educating communities, we are ending the cycle of accidental cruelty
