A little dog called Divi

By Kaytie Grant

We have a new little puppy whom we welcomed to the Treatment Centre – meet Divi.

This little dog was found by Jeff, a grab delivery driver, outside a DiviMart. Jeff is a local hero to the street dogs of the Philippines. He devotes all his spare time to feeding them with what he can afford.

A rubbish start in life

Seeing Divi in the rubbish, alone and scared, he realised she needed more than a square meal inside her. He reached out to the IWCT Philippines Facebook page asking if we could take her in. Of course, our team made room for her in one of our Quarantine Kennels where she could begin recovering from her terrible start in life. As per our new rescue policy, as Divi’s rescuer, Jeff has agreed to take on the responsibility of finding her the perfect forever home when she is well enough to leave the Treatment Centre.

For the time being however, Divi is on restricted movement in a crate, inside the Quarantine Kennel. She is weak and suffering from mange and parasitic invasion – seen all too commonly in dogs we rescue from the streets. Eating little food of poor quality out of rubbish bags has done Divi no favours.

Diet Management

It costs IWCT £4 to give a rescue dog a high quality complete feed every week. We are very grateful to local supporters who donate dog food to us. If you aren’t local you can make a monetary donation via Gcash, PayPal or our donation page, with the option to pay in Pesos or Pounds.

Can you help support Divi by giving her the nutrients she needs to gain strength and heal?

When this little dog is well enough, she will be allowed to freely roam her kennel. In time, she can begin some on lead walks around the Centre grounds with the Kennelmates. Eventually she can be integrated with the other rescues and start socialising with them in the Enrichment Park.

Mange Treatment

As well as improving little Divi’s diet, the team are also tackling her mange and parasites. She has been put on a vitamin and worming regime to rid her body of worms and improve her gut health. She has also received topical medication for the mange. Not only do the regular baths nourish her dry, furless skin and encourage hair regrowth, the human contact helps her learn to trust people and be soothed by the love and hair given by our team.

A course of mange treatment across a three month period costs approx £30 – can you make a donation to help rid Divi of mange and see her beautiful coat shine?

Our latest rescue dogs are all very different but what they do have in common is that they all require ongoing care. Read more about each of them here.
This is a street dog spay appeal. We are asking for your support to help cover the cost of spaying the street dogs adopted by Josie, the kind homeless lady whom we support with parcels of dog food.
