The image on the left is Coby when he arrived at the IWCT centre just a few months ago. He was a heartbreaking case: weakened by hunger, suffering from severe, advanced mange, and barely able to walk due to neglected, painfully long nails. The journey from that fragile state to the healthy, happy dog you see on the right is a powerful testament to medical dedication and, crucially, your support.
While our e-newsletter gave you the happy news, this blog takes you behind the scenes of Coby’s incredible physical and emotional recovery.
Phase 1: Urgent Medical Intervention (The Physical Turnaround)
Coby’s immediate priority was tackling the intense mange infestation, which had deeply affected his hair follicles and skin integrity. Dr Roland and the team initiated specialised veterinary treatment, which included targeted medication and rigorous nutritional support. This was not a quick fix; treating severe mange requires weeks of dedicated care, specialised dips, and high-quality, protein-rich food to help the skin heal and the coat regrow.
We also focused on the immediate pain relief of his feet. The nail trim, a seemingly simple procedure, dramatically improved his comfort and mobility, allowing him to finally walk, run, and eventually play, without constant pain. This life-saving treatment, including the ongoing medication, is funded entirely by your one-off and monthly donations.
Phase 2: The Heart’s Healing (The Power of Friendship)
Physical healing is vital, but emotional healing is just as critical for a dog rescued from the streets. Coby’s confidence blossomed once his pain was managed, but his true emotional breakthrough came when he met Caloy.
The bond between these two dogs is extraordinary. They share a kennel, providing comfort and stability to one another. Their playful wrestling sessions and quiet snuggles are now a key part of Coby’s rehabilitation. Caloy’s presence helped pull Coby out of his shell, proving that sometimes, the best medicine is a loving friend. Our kennelmate Jimrell has absolutely loved watching Coby’s personality develop as he’s become close with Caloy. Their connection serves as a beautiful example of the supportive environment the IWCT centre provides.
A Future Full of Hope
Today, Coby is a healthy, playful, and affectionate dog, ready for a new life. We are currently working toward the possibility of the ultimate happy ending: Coby and Caloy being adopted together!
Coby’s journey is far from unique. There are countless animals arriving at our centre every day needing urgent, complex medical attention, just like he did. By choosing to become a regular donor, you ensure that our vets have the consistent funding necessary to stock the required medical supplies and execute these long-term treatment plans.
