Parker: From Abandoned to Adored
This Valentine’s Day, we are celebrating a transformation that seemed almost impossible just a few months ago. We know that the early images of Parker were distressing, but they are a necessary part of a story filled with hope and the promise of change.
The Reality of Abandonment Parker was found heartlessly abandoned, tied to a tree and left to waste away. It is profoundly heartbreaking, but we suspect he was discarded the moment the visible signs of his illness emerged. What looked like severe, open wounds were actually TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumour) – a cancer common in the Philippines that causes uncontrollable bleeding. By the time he reached us, Parker was incredibly weak, his spirit flickering.
Two Pillars of Recovery Parker’s recovery is a shining example of why we rely on your donations for two essential areas:
Specialised Medical Intervention: TVT is horrific to witness and fatal without help, but it is highly treatable. Parker underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and intensive daily care. We are overjoyed to share that he responded perfectly; the tumours have dried out and are now completely gone. To mark his return to full health, he recently received his 5-in-1 vaccine—a vital milestone for his immunity.
Community Education: Why was Parker tied to that tree? Because of fear and misinformation. Many pet owners in the Philippines abandon dogs like him because they don’t know help is available. Our Education programme goes into schools and provincial communities to ensure people understand that TVT is not a death sentence.
This Valentine’s Day, we aren’t just celebrating his recovery; we’re celebrating his new life. Parker has officially been adopted into a loving home where he will never know the weight of a rope or the pain of neglect again.
But as we’ve shown, we still have a ways to go in helping to promote responsible pet ownership, and to rescue more dogs just like Parker. Your support can help us run essential education programmes as well as rescue missions across the country.
