Ellie’s story began with a heartbreaking display of loyalty. He was spotted by a kind member of the public, sitting in the exact same spot by the side of a busy road for days on end. With no shade from the blistering heat and no source of water, he was waiting for someone who was never coming back. Fearing he would succumb to heat exhaustion or be hit by a car, his rescuers brought him to the safety of our Treatment Centre.
A Pitiful State When Ellie arrived, he was in a truly sorry state. Dangerously thin and riddled with parasitic mange, he was also suffering from “Cherry Eye”—a painful condition where the eye glands prolapse. Despite his suffering, he was incredibly submissive and compliant, as if he knew he was finally being helped. He didn’t want to fight; he just wanted to be loved.
The Transformation into a Teddy Bear After just a few months of specialized veterinary care, Ellie was completely unrecognisable. With his Cherry Eye surgically corrected and his soft fur regrown, he reminded the whole team of a little teddy bear. Because he is so small and delicate, he lacks the typical “street-smart” confidence of our other residents. To ensure he feels safe, Ellie lives inside the Centre with our kennelmates rather than in the main kennels. Why sponsor Ellie? As one of our smallest and most vulnerable residents, Ellie requires a gentle touch and a protected environment. By sponsoring Ellie, you are supporting his ongoing specialized care and the indoor sanctuary he needs to thrive. Your support ensures this little “teddy bear” always has a lap to sit on and never has to wait by the side of the road again.
